Its not the first ever... I havnt watched it with sound yet coz im at work, but i know of another WRX that had one put in a while ago, the LSX has been retrofitted into just about every car you can name, although i havnt seen a mini with one yet but being that there is a mighty boy im sure it can be done...

There's no way it will be AWD still. The stock WRX gearbox's are made of glass, LSX wouldnt be too kind on it. You can see the T56 underneath.
Still has the stock rear diff and driveshafts though. I wouldnt imagine they'd take too much abuse. The drift WRX's in Japan are converted to RWD only, but use bigger Skyline diff's.
Would be good to see a run between this and the LSX EVO that was posted a while ago.

Im impressed that they have gone to teh trouble, but couldnt have picked an uglier wrx to do it too.
would have stack to the 99 mdl if i was in to that sort of thing.

No it's mounted north south. They have a gearbox in the tunnel like a RWD car, but have shafts coming out of the box for the front wheels. Even the FWD Liberty's and Impreza's are like that.

Judging by the video, it's from America.
Anyway that's just nuts. Is there anything a LSX engine wont go into? It seems to be an interesting trend these days.

im no expert but thats still runnig the 4wd system, , and the 4wd systems in the stock wrxs can handle a beating as only the gearbox in these cars were the weakest links in the drivetrain
wat a awesome transplant, in america they know what needs to be done and do it, like there is a sexy as hell series 7 rx7 with a fully worked and stock looking sr20dett looked and went hard, maybe jap but it had best of both worlds, sexy shell with a sexy and powerfull drivetrain that wont blow every weekend

Um, the 4WD system IS part of the gearbox in a WRX. There's no transfer case like an EVO or other cars, its all in the gearbox.
I've worked on dozens and dozens of WRX's, and pulled their gearbox's out. There's no room for a WRX box with the LS1 in there, they are a flat 4, so the motor is really only 2 cylinders long compared to the LS1's 4 cylinders.
The WRX bellhousing sits well forward in the engine bay, in line with the front axle. There would be no room for the driveshafts with the LS1.
Its all academic anyway, as the video above says its a T56 like i thought.
